As the president of Efficiency Lab for Architecture, an American studio that recently completed the construction of the Telluride display cabinet insulated glass door House in Colorado's scenic Telluride Box Canyon, Aybars Asci lives by the motto: Efficient design is beautiful. A series of three display cabinet insulated glass door volumes are juxtaposed with one another to form the structure, which is extremely straightforward. Despite the fact that the construction only took a few weeks, the project had been in the works for several years before it was finally completed. For example, as architect Aybars Asci has frequently pointed out, sometimes complexity is required in order to achieve such extreme levels of simplicity.
It is built as a series of three single-height square-plan volumes that are stacked on top of one another, with the offset of the contour curves being followed and optimized to the greatest extent possible throughout. In a press release by the architects, they explain that each Double insulation glass box measuring 45 feet by 45 feet is suspended in a moment of suspension, allowing for an approach to the vertical terrain that is horizontal in nature.
Besides its distinctive shape, the Telluride House is distinguished by the fact that each exposed side of the three volumes is completely covered in Double insulation glass, offering its residents expansive views of the Colorado landscape. Indeed, Efficiency Lab was able to build on an almost 1.5-hectare plot of land to create nearly 650 square metres glass of floor space while paying close attention to minimizing its ecological and environmental impact. The interior and exterior colors of the house, in fact, have been meticulously researched to ensure that they are harmonious with the tones of the surrounding landscape and environment.
The only break in the continuity is provided by windows, where structural elements have once again been kept to a bare minimum. A difficult challenge, but one that was eventually overcome, was installing capillary tubes to compensate for differences in atmospheric pressure between the manufacturing site of the insulated-display cabinet insulated glass door and the high altitude of the home, which is more than 2700 metres above sea level.
Because of the three-story design, there is a clear distinction between private and public areas. The first hallway and a stone living room, which are adjacent to the garage, as well as guest bedrooms and a games room, are located on the ground floor of the house. One bedroom on the ground floor and three on the second and third floors make up the house's sleeping quarters. In the Double insulation glass House, a large open space serves as a gathering place for all of the common areas, which include a large living room and dining room as well as a kitchen. When you reach the middle level, you will see the entrance to the display cabinet door House, which you should take note of. Finally, the three bedrooms are located on the second floor of the upper level, on the second floor of the upper level. According to architect Aybars Asci, the relationship between the light-footed house and the majestic mountain is akin to a symbiotic one where the cantilevers create a delicate link between the two.
